Constitution of the Glasgow University Business Club (GUBC)
Article 1: Name
The name of the organization shall be the Glasgow University Business Club (GUBC), hereafter referred to as “the Club.”
Article 2: Objectives
The objectives of the Club are:
- To foster a passion for business, entrepreneurship, and innovation among students at the University of Glasgow.
- To provide opportunities for members to engage in professional development through workshops, seminars, and networking events.
- To facilitate connections between students, alumni, industry professionals, and academic staff to enhance employability and leadership skills.
- To promote collaboration with other societies, external businesses, and organizations to broaden the experiences of our members.
- To offer members a platform to develop leadership, teamwork, and project management skills through active participation in the Club’s activities.
Article 3: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
- Membership is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Glasgow.
- Members must pay an annual subscription fee set by the Executive Board.
Section 2: Rights of Members
- All members shall have the right to attend Club meetings, events, and activities.
- Members shall have the right to vote in the Club’s elections and participate in decision-making processes.
- Members have the right to stand for election for any position on the Executive Board.
Article 4: Executive Board
Section 1: Composition The Executive Board shall consist of the following elected officers:
- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Marketing Director
- Sponsorship Coordinator
- Event Manager
- Alumni Engagement Officer
- Welfare Officer
- Academic Events Coordinator
- Social Events Coordinator
Section 2: Duties of the Executive Board
- President: Acts as the official representative of the Club, chairs meetings, and oversees all Club activities.
- Vice-President: Assists the President and assumes their duties in their absence.
- Treasurer: Manages the Club’s finances, including budgeting, collecting membership fees, and maintaining financial transparency.
- Secretary: Prepares agendas, keeps minutes of meetings, and handles correspondence.
- Marketing Director: Develops and implements marketing strategies to promote Club events and initiatives.
- Sponsorship Coordinator: Secures sponsorships and partnerships with external organizations.
- Event Manager: Plans and organizes Club events, workshops, and social activities.
- Alumni Engagement Officer: Liaises with alumni to foster ongoing relationships and mentorship opportunities.
- Welfare Officer: Ensures the well-being of all members and promotes inclusivity and diversity.
- Academic Events Coordinator: Organizes academic-related activities, such as workshops, panel discussions, and speaker events.
- Social Events Coordinator: Plans and manages social events to build community and engagement among members.
Section 3: Election and Terms
- Elections for Executive Board positions shall take place annually, no later than the first week of May.
- The term of office for all elected positions is one academic year.
- All candidates must be current members of the Club and students of the University of Glasgow.
- The election process will be managed by an independent Election Committee.
Article 5: Meetings
Section 1: General Meetings
- General Meetings shall be held at least once per semester to discuss Club activities and initiatives.
- A quorum for General Meetings shall be 25% of the Club’s membership.
Section 2: Executive Board Meetings
- Executive Board Meetings shall be held at least once a month to plan and review the Club’s activities.
- Decisions in Executive Board Meetings shall be made by a majority vote.
Section 3: Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- The AGM shall be held in the final month of the academic year to present the Club’s annual report, financial statement, and to elect new officers.
- Notice of the AGM shall be given to all members at least two weeks in advance.
Article 6: Finance
- The Club’s finances shall be managed by the Treasurer, who will ensure that accurate financial records are kept.
- All income generated by the Club, including membership fees and sponsorship, shall be used solely for the purpose of furthering the Club’s objectives.
- The Club’s bank account shall require the signatures of both the Treasurer and the President for any financial transactions.
- A financial report shall be presented at the AGM and made available to all members upon request.
Article 7: Amendments
- Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed by any member of the Club.
- Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Secretary at least two weeks before a General Meeting.
- Amendments require a two-thirds majority vote of the members present at the General Meeting to be adopted.
Article 8: Dissolution
- The Club may be dissolved by a two-thirds majority vote of the membership at a General Meeting.
- In the event of dissolution, any remaining funds shall be donated to a charity agreed upon by the members, after all debts and obligations have been settled.
Article 9: Compliance
The Club shall operate in accordance with the policies and regulations of the University of Glasgow and the Glasgow University Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
